Puttmann, Josef : Original Painted Sketches [seven] Used in the Creation of Embroidered Color Banners

Circa1906-1927. Seven original painted images (average 8 x 10 inch) on slightly larger sheets or boards. Josef Puttman (d.1957) owned a business which produced embroidered colored banners in Speyer am Rhein in Germany. In 1930 he expanded his business by purchasing J.G. Schreibmayr in Munich, a company that is still in existence today. These sketches were for banners done for different social and civic clubs. They feature heraldic symbols and for the most part name the organization and provide a date if relevant. Three of the sketches specifically bear Puttmann's name. A few of the banners show the patriotic fervor of the times. The sketches briefly identified, are: "Fur Gottfur Kaiser und Reich"; "Veteranen Verein, 1860-1906. Mingolsheim"; "Kreiger Verein 1927. Schalbrunn"; "Verein der Bodener. 1903-1914. Stuttgart"; "Fur Gott . Freiburg-Baden. 1926"; "Heid dir mein Voterland"; and "Bodenser Verein. 1870-1908. Zurich". Fine clean copies.. Book.
